Khushboo's at the Asiana Bridal Show in Birmingham - part one

Khushboo's by Chand are a Birmingham-based retailer, they had two slots on the catwalk at the Asiana Show, and I've managed to find a pretty decent/clear video copy of their show. Take a look at the video, and then check out my photos for up-close details!

The first outfit on show didn't really appeal to me very much, yeah it's nice but nothing spectatular:

I liked the second outfit though, especially the funky sleeves - they look a bit medieval style.

I didn't manage to get a clear photo of this outfit, but as you can see it's a very traditional-style outfit. Although I usually prefer more egdy/original outfits I think this one is beautiful! In my opinion it's a traditional bridal outfit done very well, the colours work, and the embroidery design suits the shape of the outfit.

I like the colour combo on this next outfit too:

I wasn't too keen on the next two outfits. This shade of pink with all it's shinyness just looks really tacky to me!

Then there was this sickly yellow/gold outfit. The style of the outfit isn't too bad and I actually like the look of the skirt from the front, but the colour puts me off completely! What colour jewellery would you wear with it - more gold??

This red outfit, was the final piece and correct me if I'm wrong but don't designers usually save the best for last? I don't have much to say about this outfit, except that it wasn't my favourite from the collection...I've switched the order I've posted these a little bit in order to show you MY favourite last!

So here it is, my favourite outfit from the collection. The main reason I like it is cause of the cut-out bits on the sleeves. I also like that the skirt is heavily embroidered at the top, and more less embroidered on the bottom, I think it creates a really nice shape.

Khushboo's don't have a website *yawn* they should probably get one? Even if it's a one-page thing with just their address on it. For anyone that's interested I think they're on Ladypool Road in Birmingham.

So, which outfit was your favourite??

  1. I love the green one too. Very original. I think us south asian girls look wonderful in all shades of green. I wish more girls would skip the good 'ol pink and wear green more.

  4. The outfits are lovely but the customer service is awful...once I place an order with someone I expect to be able to contact thr store as to the progress of my order. They deliberately but the phone off the hook so it is constantly engaged and I cannot get through. The owner is also very rude and if you are not buying more than one or two outfits he refers to you as a chip on his tooth and that he has more important things to thik about than your order.

  5. khusboos outfits are really nice but expensive!

  6. KHUSHBOOS-AWFUL AWFUL SERVICE...dont buy here, they take 75% upfront and then they dont offer ANY customer service. They told us our oufits will be ready by 6weeks but taken 12 weeks. also every time you try to call their phone is engaged, i think they leave the phone off the hook as they probably have so many unhappy customers. Then, if you ever do get through, they say they will call you back and they never do! I have had 2 months of this and am so fed up but because they have most of my money there is nothing i can do! And the manager is also VERY rude. Be warned, plenty of other good shops which provide EXCELLENT service-anywhere but here!!

  7. Lots of mixed reviews on Khushboos by Chand. I've never shopped there, or even visited the store, but a close friend of mine got her wedding and walima outfits from there, plus 6 outfits for her sisters and she couldn't have been happier! No complaints whatsoever!
So what's with all the negative comments??
All I can conclude is that if you're spending a lot of money in store you'll get amazing customer service, and if not then maybe you're not treated so well...my advice to anyone who likes the designs and is unsure about whether to make an order would be to go and check out the store for yourself in person and if possible buy/order a casual outfit first to try them out, before ordering your wedding outfit from them.

  8. i had a very bad experience here too. terrible service. it is no justification to treat customers spending less, any worse than those spending more. customers should be valued regardless, especially as each suit is approx £300, which is still a lot of money!

  9. apparently they have changed management, and since they have they have gone down hill. Whoever is running it now has obviously driven the once successful business into the ground! Wouldn't recommend buying from here, their clothes may seem nice but their service is the worst I've ever experienced.

  10. I love Khushboos collection, they do the best bridal wear!!!But i have to say that their customer service isn't very good,Chand is rude,he doesnt know how to treat his customers, him and his staff are very nice to you when ur buying something, but after payments are done, they dont rely care after that, you have to keep ringin them to find out when the outfits are arrving, and when they do arrive, they don't allow you to come to the shop on the day it suits the customer, they want you to come in when it suits them. i think they should focus more on customer needs even after their product has been purchased til they have happily taken the product from the shop. thats their only weakness, and its a big one to!!!! u neeed manners Chand!!!

  11. Khoosboohs does have beautiful clothes...but ur right bit too pricey. got my engagement sari from there 5yrs ago...thankfully the male owner didnt serve me, one of the girls did n she was nice...i duno if the same guy still owns it as iv moved but he was sooo arrogant, defo no idea what customer service is, when i did go when he was there he was always chatting bout how much money he makin etc...and always bein rude on phone. also if he's there its hard to haggle the price down lol...with just the female staff you can bring it down but not him! lol. bt the clothes r goooorrrrgggggggeeeeoooouuuussss tho!

  12. I think the service is absolutely disgusting. I bought 2 outfits on saturday. totally 500pounds approx. outfits were both beautiful except when I took one home and saw in 'real light' that there were marks on one which were quite distinctive. Took it back within one hour and was told exchange only. Yet Item faulty. However according to trading standards act 1979 I am entitled to a full refund however management 'chand' threatened me to leave the shop or he will call the police. Yet I had not even threatened him or raised my voice. I simply wanted a refund as the outfit was FAULTY and I could not wear it that I wanted to that evening. DO NOT SHOP THERE IS ALL I CAN SAY.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Dont ever order from Khushboos. They fool you with their beautiful clothes, take 100% of your money before placing the order and if anything is wrong they wont accept fault. I ordered a suit and when it came the embroidery on the front of the kameez was not symmetrical from the left and right side of the chest area. It was so obvious and due to careless cutting by the one who sewed it. I was made to feel as if I was seeing things. They just denied it. I threatened them with the small claims court but its not worth it. i was so disappointed with. I had really been looking forward to it. Just dont shop there you wont be satisfied and will be hundreds of pounds worse off. Please somebody recommend me a shop with just as nice clothes but excellent customer service. What about anywhere on Soho road. Is there anything good?

  14. The customer service in this shop is so bad. Do they want customers or not? I cant believe they dont seem to understand that alienating their customers will mean bad business in the future. They all have an attitude problem expecially Saima, developed I think from their belief they are superior to all other shops. I dont feel like shopping there when I get spoken to rudely. I gave them a second chance purely out of desperation to find something nice to wear and that was the last time I'll walk out of that shop.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I agree with some of the negative comments above, i personally had a bad experience whilst shopping in khushboo's. It was my wedding last year and i wanted to buy a few suits with a budget of £250 for each but i was told no clothes in the shop were worth a minimum of £300, i actually did buy my suits but the service was rubbish the owner was very rude and so was his assistant saima. They wanted 75% upfront could not contact them via phn, i was very disappointed in the service, there has been alot of family weddings since and i have advised them not to shop there!!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. all i got to say is that i have bought alot of suits from their over the past few years, n thank god have always recieved mines excatly the way i wanted. Having said this i knw far more people who have had bad experience with them. Brides actually let down cos they had not recieved their lenghas and hence no wedding outfit. Also staff is rude, they dont pick up phone, or it goes to fax. If you do get through the owener never comes on phone, cos he is in sum meeting!!!
Chand is full of himself has no respect for customers n his staff need customer service skills too. It doesnt matter if someone is spending less or more or buying one or more outfits, end of the day every one works hard for their money and all should be treated fairly. But I dont blame Chand, cos end of the day people who do have bad experience with him still go back to him, so he has the attitude "who gives a shit, theyll cum back anyways"

  18. Khusboos is a very well known boutique in the west midlands area! They have a niche collection and have many rivals. I think the nasty comments are those of rivals and sheer jealousy. Success comes to those who work hard and earn it. Khusboo's not only design but provide a tailor made service with customer care to all customers in Europe. A ver happy and honest customer.... My motto is if you cant beat them then join them!... Respect to Brother Chand and co! Shaz B Peterborough

  20. I have shopped in Khushboos for the past 4 years..Buying for my brothers wedding, My sisters Wedding and have been to have a look around for mine...
There clothes are very beautifull, But i cant say that about their services All staff and Chand are very much Stuck up!!! but the best way to play people like that is play them at their own game!
Have a fixed price in your head and stick to it!!

And for everyones information saima has left/sacked and now works at midlands fashion!

  21. i went in and asked to see bridal...i was told i cant and you have to telephone for an appointment...i was in the shop and diary was right there!!!i called and called the next day...no answer, i ended up calling the store....the man was sooo rude. they cum after 3pm! he said.I went into the shop, she pulled put diary to make an appointment.....!!!!wot a waste of time....wot goes around comes around...wouldnt get my wedding lengha for them if they gave it for free.

  22. Went there to but a bridal outfit, was told the same - make an appointment then Chand proceeds to show his 'elite' collection to another couple right next to me!! So i stood and watched the show haha.

Would never recommend shopping there, try Kirans on Soho Road - customer service is shockingly ace - defo not what i expected!

  23. went there today and the owner said he would work around our budget ---yeah right coz after that he said he never even said anything like that and he claimed he didnt even negotiate price!the assistants were muttering that they were really annoyed with us and they didnt even measure properly !i definitely will never buy anything from there-as for the prices...rip off's some of them!

  24. Khushboo's is a shop with nice clothes but no customer service. my niece bought an outfit from their and was promised that the matching material would be posted. The owner was really happy when we bought the outfit but then as soon as we began ringing him five days later to say parcel not arrived he started to get angry. No parcel arrived and I went to the shop on Saturday. I have never experienced such threatening behaviour, he was raising his voice saying no refund!. And he denyed all previous conversations. I said to him there is no disclaimer that within 7 days no refund or exchange and he said his verbal communication was disclaimer although when we bought the suit he never said it. I will be going to trading standards int eh morning I think this guy is a disgrace to all mankind!! He might have nice suits but he has no manners what so ever.

  25. Totally agree! Chand is a total waste of space! their outfits in the shop maybe nice but their tailoring is disgraceful! never fit right and they refuse to take again fault!

one of the assistance measured me up, after she went Chand himself measured me and their was a difference of 2 1/2 inches between both! i dnt think i lost them inches while jus standing there!

they're so unorganised and have no sense of customer services... Khushboos is a shop i would avoid at all costs especially if your going to spend the kind of money he demands for his crap customer skills and tailoring!

OVERALL: too expensive, arrogant staff and management! I think everyone should avoid goin there and then maybe he will invest in some customer care skills! and a better tailor!!

  31. I would not recommend buying clothes from Kushboos unless you want to be stressed out!

Last year it was my wedding and I was in tears with how bad the customer service was. I gave them plenty of notice to alter the design of wedding dress but they wouldnt do it and the lady forgot to pass on the message. Then there was a big delay in getting the dress, later I found out it was stolen and they had to quickly make another one for me, except they didnt tell me this information and I just managed to get it on time.

Phew...what a stressful time I had with them, yes there is beautiful clothes there, but for a special occasion who needs that stress!!

  33. Hello everyone...

I have been there a few times, and each time i have recieved good service.

The shop is always busy and there is alot of demand on the staff, i also feel that the manager is a really nice person actually and ppl on here are writting bad reviews yet the shop is doing so well- that must be for a reason? correct??

I think we need to appreciate that the shop can do with a little bit more space and staff but we as customers really need to chill out!!

and another thing price wise- i think you can't beat it either !

    ReplyDelete
  34. Chand is a nice guy, he is proud of the quality of his designs so it might come off as arrogant to some, but Khushboo does have stunning outfits.

    ReplyDelete
  35. service is awful.theres plenty of shops on ladypool road now who provide better customer service as well as product.their days are numbered.the staff has ruined their business with their attitude.other shops have the exact same product as khushboos but at a better price.once they have you money they dont want to know

    ReplyDelete
  36. Once shopped there once and only popped in by passing by. good collection of clothes & nice designs. agree with comments with trying to contact them constantly engaged. most of his clothes aren't even designed by chand. i think there are done by designers in india. service is okay not as good as O&P Smethwick or Frontier back in India. tailoring could improve -lining on the kameez attached after sewn and no lining on salwar - expected this when paying for a £300 suit. Frontier in Phagwara is the best and get treated like royalty and service is A1 - if spending a couple of thousand on clothes go back home holiday and shopping. monst of the clothes are sewn and given in 24 hours

    ReplyDelete
  37. all the clothes are absolutely stunning!! would rate it better then soho road, anyday. the owner himself is a down to earth guy, much more helpful than the rest of the staff. definitely the best clothes around..

    ReplyDelete
  38. OH MY GOD you ppl have got it right about how rude the staff are... i personally dnt like anything from there as other shops on ladypool road are 100% BETTER.. Chand needs to get a personality and lessons on people skills. I found it awful when i went in. No1 was around to serve you, when you called sum1 they never came.. went in there the once and never have gone back since... i think they over price there anyway.. your better off going where people will treat you well!!!

Have been going to Kushboohs for the last 4 years, service has been EXCELLENT, Outfits are beautiful & stunning, my brother got married & got the bridal & all our outfits from there, went shopping eveywhere to look for outfits & ended up back in Kushboohs, Chand himself was really helpful as we couldnt decide what colours togo for,so ladies go in & see for yourself. From reading the reviews it seems like people are out their to get him, he must be doing something right as his shop whenever i have been in is always busy mashallah! so he must be doing something right, if his shop was as bad as people are making it out to be their would be no-one in there, All these anonymous reviews are aload of crap, his staff are friendly & cant do enough for you so go in & see for yourself!!!!!

  41. Chand has reallllllllyyyy bad customer service, the owner is rude and obnoxious.thinks he's a so called designer when he doesnt even design the stuff himself, i ordered my lengha from Zoya on Soho Road, really nice people, their customer service was amazing and they delivered better than i expected and a week earlier than it was due, their prices were really good too and its all custom made exactly how i wanted, they even got me a discount at another jewellery shop on soho road.

  43. Hi,

I shopped at kushboos for a number of years and I have to say, their service is crap! Once they have your money the service all goes down hill. They got my order wrong twice and then chand got angry when I asked for my money back! I got it back eventually. I don't shop there any more, when you spend that sort of money on outfits you clearly want a good service as well, I don't recommend them to any of my friends and family, poor poor service!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I personally wouldnt recommend Khushboo. I know some people have found the service and products to be to their liking, however I amongst many others did not find this to be the case. The collections are lovely and what is displayed is amazingly beautiful. However its pointless if the final product is not what was requested. In my case I was asked to pay 100% not 75% at the time of ordering. The wedding outfit arrived longer than the original order and about 5 shades lighter than requested. I now have 3 weeks to find a new wedding outfit as this is ruined. When I spoke to the manager I was told to go to trading standards and complain and the product was exactly what they had wrote on the order sheet. (The order sheet which I was never given a copy of).
If you do intend to shop there my advice is to please request a copy of your order sheet which states your colour/measurements, so you have proof should the outcome not be what you requested. My advice to khushboo is to change their practice and issue every customer a copy of the order sheet, not just the ones that pay over a certain amount, as everyone should be a valued customer regardless. To the blogger that said we are jealous of Chands success, this is not the case as I wouldnt have been willing to shop there in the first place had this been the case.

  45. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!

He as used the excuse of clothes being stuck in Customs because of the dye (colouring) with 3 dfferent friends on 3 different occasions!!!! Why not just admit you cocked up the order ... and yet the first time you meet him he makes out he's such a pious guy. pious pple dont lie mate!!

If his business is as good as he makes out why is he still stiuck in such a small shope eh????

  46. i went in yesterday, just for a browse..the door was open, the lady screamed and said 'WE'RE NOT OPEN!come back in half an hour'

we returned later that day, and to be honest really DON'T like any of his outfits. i dont understand what people see in his clothes, trashy and overdone.

a friend had her bridal outfits NOT ARRIVE for her big day' no refund either!

  51. Hi all I just thought i'd share my experiance wid KHUSHBOOS By chand,
YES theirs definatly a Customer service issue which SERIOUSLY needs to be addressed by the Proprietors!! The clothes are lovely & very different ofcourse comes the price tag too but if ur after nice clothes you shld be willing to pay, but wen it comes down to negotiating they make you feel that your wanting it for nothing, I wld like to say too all customers that only go their if u kind find abything anywere else as ur bound to find something nice..

  55. went to CHANDS shop and what a dump. The fittings and fixtures look like they are from a carboot sale, the flooring is cheap a nd all damaged, then you come to the staff. Very unprofessional with no idea besides one girl who wears a scarf, i think she is from pakistan. Then we have CHAND himself, all he likes to say is everyone out there is s**t and his garments are the best, again unproffesional. Also he keeps going on about how much money he makes and how customers spend so much with him. His prices are way too expensive. But i will say is get a discount because he will give it. I had no intention on buying after all this but decided to see how bad these prices are so i choose a suit for £899 and i got him down to £490 and he was ready to sell. Overall not recommended

    ReplyDelete
  63. i have never shopped from khushboos personally and never been to the shop, but a family friend ordered 2 outfits 3 years ago which were £500 each. They had chosen the outfits from the samples in the shop which i was told were amazing. However, when the outfits came, they were different to what was chosen and the work on the clothes was cheap and the measurements were wrong.
I have seen the outfits and believe you me i would never ever pay that amount of money for something so cheap looking. I could not believe they were so expensive, they certainly did not look tasteful.
I have a family wedding this june and i have avoided the shop. So many people have written how rude the owner and the assistants are and what poor service they have recieved.
My mums friend has just bought her outfits for a wedding from there and it seems she was pleased although i have not spoken to her.
Just out of interest i searched for reviews of khusboos and i came across this website and another one where the reviews are equally damning.
I personally would never entertain the thought of shopping there and would not waste my money there, it is simply not worth it.
There are people that have shopped there and were pleased with the outcome however, these are few and far inbetween.
There are plenty of places elsewhere that will provide more or less the same clothes of the same quality.
Only Allah (SWT) knows the truth but i feel it to be very unjust if the owner is treating customers in this way, we all work hard for our money and you will all know how difficult it is earning it and when it comes to spending it it goes like water.
It wrong and its almost like robbing people of their hard earned cash. Customer service aside, it is morally and ethically wrong and a very bad way to make a living. We should all be making an honest living.
As for me, i will never go there. The comments on this forum and the experience of a family friend is enough to keep me away. I dont have that kind of money to waste and nor the time to deal with such people.
Very few people have recieved good customer service, they were the lucky ones but the testimonies of the majority show me what the dealings are really like.
Nothing is hidden from Allah (SWT).

  64. I use to shop at Kushboos for many years before and after my wedding, and I know Chand from many years back, and I have to say all the negative comments about him and his staff at correct. He just doesn't know how to treat his customers and is rude! I have not shopped there for over 5 years due to a disagreement I had with Chand whereby he refused to give my money back after I refused to accept an outfit which was no way near what I originally ordered in store. Luckily I paid on my credit card and as soon as I told him that my credit card company would be taking it up with him, he sure enough gave my money back. I would never ever ship there again, and more fool him, because I use to spend a fair deal in his shop and I made sure I told all of my friends and family to stay clear too. And just to finish, since I've started shopping at other places, where you also recieve outstanding customer service, Chand's designs are not all that!
